  • This code provides information on the identification of the presence of asbestos at the workplace, and the implementation of measures to eliminate or minimise the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos fibres, thereby minimising the incidence of asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.
  • This code contains legal requirements which prohibit persons conducting a business or undertaking from carrying work involving asbestos or asbestos containing material, except in prescribed circumstances.

Regulator and enforcement action

We undertake regulatory activity and carry out enforcement action to protect the health, safety and welfare at work of Australian Government workers and to assist in their early and safe return to work.

You will need to comply with this code if you intend to remove asbestos or asbestos containing materials from buildings, structures, plants, equipment or vehicles.

 

The purpose of this code of practice is to provide advice for the safe removal of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials (ACM) from buildings and structures, plant and equipment, and vehicles.
